Question by Cadaverella: behavioral problems with my cat?
we have just sold our house and moved into a new. we have had Manny (a female cat) for about 4 years. We also have 2 sister cats who are about 2 now that we adopted as kittens.
We also had a cat named Oscar (male) but my boyfriends ex wife ended up taking him during our move and refuses to give him back (he’s in her name but she left him and we wanted him)
while Oscar was in the house he was the dominant one, (aswell as the oldest) and Manny and Oscar were best friends…so I was worried that Oscars leaving would upset her, since she didn’t get along with the kittens too much (she just ignored their presence)
but Manny got along fine with the kittens and we were happy.
…until about 3 weeks later, we sent her over for a ‘play date’ with oscar…thinking she would like to spend a day with him…and while she sneakily was there she ate holes through whatever clothes she could get to…she ruined about 15 articles of clothing by chewing large holes in them and she actually
ate the material
when she was dropped back to us she never ate a thing. and we thought she was just being mean to oscars new owner
and she was fine for the next month.
we sold our old house and bought a new and as soon as we got in there she has started to not allow the other 2 cats near me. manny follows me around constantly and when another can comes near me manny will either fight them, growl at them, or knock them off my lap and force her head under my hand so that I am petting her.
Manny was never a ‘cuddler’ she was the only cat not to sleep in bed with me, and she never even came to me to be petted, even though I would try and call out to her to come to me.
but as I noticed that manny wanted my attention I started to give her lots of it, and still do.
but the other 2 cats are scared all the time now. I always find them curled in a corner together, and they try to sneak by me…but as I said…now manny is always at my side.
Manny is also starting to pee on our coats and shoes and laundry…
I am ready to give up on her but I don’t want to if this is just a simple problem….probably what I am guessing is due to stress and a fight for dominance over the top female cat in the house now that oscar is away
Manny has also always chewed her own nails…and she has this crazy obsession with her tail…she’ll curl up in a ball and lick and chew on the end of her tail for hours…she is actually chewing the end of her tail off. – she has always done this
but is this normal?
so…I always correct manny I give her a scolding no and move her away and won’t let her come back for 20 minutes or so.
and the other 2 know I wonlt let fighting go on, thats wy I’m not wanying to tolerate this from manny, because the other 2 are so important to me.
I just never wanted to send manny away because I liked the others,

yikes. I can’t wait to hear what people answer. I would say though, hat you shouldn’t allow Manny to act liek this. Pet the other 2 kitties & if Manny tries to get aggressive, pick her up & move her away & then go back to petting the other 2. Not only does she need to know she can;t behave that way, the other 2 need to know that you will protect them. Good luck!
