Question by Jackie: Cat Litterbox Training Problems?
Back in July, I adopted a kitten from the SPCA. He was so great that I went back and picked up the little guy he was sharing the cage with a week later! The first one has definitely demonstrated dominance, and since I’ve brought the new one home, we’ve been having major litterbox problems with him.
Dexter, our problem cat, does not pee in his litterbox. Defecating is never an issue. He consistently urinates in our dining room, which has now virtually destroyed that room. After using a blacklight, we found that he’s done the same all throughout our living room. For the last week, we’ve kept him confined in our spare bedroom with multiple toys, food, and his own brand-new litter box. We’ve even switched to an unscented litter in case that was the problem. In the meantime, we’ve cleaned up the house with Nature’s Miracle, but even that hasn’t completely worked. Dexter was doing fine until today. I came home and found he urinated next to his new box. He went to the vet in December and had no issues; we believe it’s completely behavioral and even additive likes Cat-Attract have been ineffective.
We’re at the end of our rope here. Giving him away is the last thing we want to do, but we have no idea how to correct this – if we even can. If any one has any advice or further suggestions, let us know! 🙁

i have the same problem. we had a perfect girl cat, and we got a boy, thinking she was lonely or something. He pees all over. does the cat pee on the ground or on the walls? on the walls is them marking their territory, and if hes an outside cat( at least part time) then he might feel like he needs to make it known that its HIS home. i have no solution to that. if its on the ground, then he probably has a bladder problem, even though you says the vet said hes fine.
Ill tell you a secret. i heard about a cat hypnotist that hypnotizes them so they will or wont do certain things. it’s $ 45 for a half hour (1 cat). i haven’t done it yet but i plan to real soon. it makes them do or don’t do things. like peeing all over. i don’t know if it works, but its worth a try. right?
