In June 2010, American Humane’s Red Star Animal Emergency Services™ team helped rescue and care for 387 cats who were evacuated from an overcrowded and unsanitary animal shelter in St. Marys, Pa. The cats suffered from a variety of painful ailments, including upper respiratory conditions, eye infections and feline leukemia virus (FeLV). We worked alongside the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), the Elk County Humane Society, medical teams from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Florida, and a team from PetSmart Charities, Inc. that provided supplies.
