Question by Diana: How much do soft sided cat carriers squish down on an airplane?
Could anyone share some experience with the height of a carrier you were able to fit under the seat?
I am looking at Sherpa bags.
I’m not sure if I should go with the bigger or smaller one.
My flight says 9 inches for height. I found a bag thats about 9.5 and one that is 10.5. Ideally my cat should be in one that is 10.5 tall.
The cat must be flown. I moved from NY to Cali 7 months ago and 1 day of flying is better than driving her for 5. This is a one time thing. I just need to bring her home with me. Trust me I don’t want to fly with a cat either!

I would go with the handbag ones, the ones you can carry on your shoulder and are about the size of a duffle bag. It really depends on the size of your cat overall. You can fit a rather large dufflebag under most seats in airlines, and the rest of the way you can carry it on your lap to help calm the cat.
I had to travel this way and had to buy one at the airport. The one they had to offer was surprisingly just the right size, so a call to the airport might be in order.
I think if you got the one that’s 10.5 tall that should be fine. Likely your cat will be miserable no matter what you do and lie down most of the time anyway. Just so long as they have enough room to turn around.
