Question by msc: How to keep my cat from scratching the porch posts?
My cat will not stop scratching the large posts on our front porch. The main post that she was using – I have attached a carpet strip to. She has now moved to the other posts. I do not want to have capret strips everywhere!! Is there a spray or anything to keep a cat from clawing porch posts? This is getting very frustrated – please help.

We actually covered the posts with very thin tin, the flexible kind you can form easily, and then painted it to match the posts. Worked like a charm, and if you do a good job you really can’t tell it’s there.
Take it up about 8″ above where the highest claw mark is, and if the top edge is flush with the post take the time to seal it with some silicone caulk on the top to keep the moisture from collecting and rotting the posts. (Don’t seal the bottom, there has to be somewhere for the moisture to go!)
If you have wood natural finish posts, “paint” the tin first with a paint stain from Home Depot or Lowes and put a coat of marine varnish on it, then mount it to the post. Once you nail or screw it up you can hit those holes with a little spot of silicone to seal them as well.
