This handsome dude is named after Kimmo Timonen, one of the Flyers-and he’s a big boy who probably could pass for an NHL defenseman-but doesn’t have a nasty bone in his body! Kimmo is a HUGE love bug who will lay in your lap and let you pet him till the cows come home-he will let you hold him like a baby, pick him up, do pretty much anything you want-he’s just a big hunk-a-hunka love! Kimmo is vaccinated and neutered….he did test positive for FIV but is feline leukemia negative. FIV is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, meaning he has a somewhat compromised immune system-similar to people who have HIV. It is not transferable to other species or people, and is ONLY transmissable through deep penetrating bite wounds. Some vets recommend that FIV-positive cats should either be the only cat or only paired with other FIV-positive cats.Kimmo is currently sharing a room with his buddy Doc who is also FIV+. Other vets say that FIV+ and non-FIV cats can mingle together. Kimmo is so laid back he could probably be in a mixed cat environment-he does not have to be the “alpha” cat! FIV positive cats can live a long, healthy life. Please check out the link on our web page on the left side which fully describes the meaning of FIV, or visit Cornell University’s FIV information page at www.vet.cornell.edu

4/21/08- Coal tested positive for FIV. This is a feline form of AIDS that is not contagious to humans but is contagious to other cats. Many cats with FIV can live long healthy lives just like a non-positive cat. Coal deserves his chance at a good home that can love him just the way he is. Because of his condition he cannot go to a home with other cats, however we have another cat currently at the shelter that has the same diagnosis (Sasquatch). Please think about adopting both of these kitties together so they have friendship throughout life… This sweet kitty, is Coal. Coal is about 3 years old and was brought to the shelter because the owner’s child was allergic. This guy is the total package. He’s neutered, housebroken, and good with kids and other cats. His previous owners report that he’s playful, and smart too, he even comes when he’s called! Coal is all ready to go, come and call this handsome guy yours !
