Question by LeoLover: Please somebody with veterinary knowledge help my cat!!!?
Ok, so first of all, I AM taking my cat to the vet tomorrow but I’m still worried.
He’s almost a year old and I adopted him from a kill shelter about a month ago.
When he came home, he came down with an upper respiratory infection. The vet prescribed L-lysine which didn’t help very much and he got worse. I took him back to the vet and she gave him an antibiotic which seemed to help him recover almost immediately. However, he did have an occasional hacking cough and sneezed constantly.
Now it’s been about ten days since his recovery. He still sneezes a few times a day. The coughing also has continued. Three or four times a day, he will experience a hacking cough with his neck arched for 10-15 seconds. If I didn’t know better, I’d guess it was a hairball, because I’ve never seen a cat expel a hairball, but no hairball has come up and this just goes on and on. I called my vet and spoke to a technician who suggested he could have pneumonia, but he seems perfectly healthy aside from the cough.
Is it possible that he still is just experiencing upper respiratory symptoms? Or is this something worse?
I’m SO worried about my baby, somebody please help me!!

It’s possible that he still has the URI. If you have any other cats, I would suggest keeping the new one separated until he gets a clean bill of health from the vet (even though the other cats may have already been exposed to his upper respiratory it’s better safe than sorry). Whether it’s something worse is a question the vet will have to answer. Take note if he has any discharge from his eyes or nose and relay this information to the vet when you go as well.
