Question by Hello2010: Chihuahua owners UK – Puppy classes?
Hi,
I’d like to ask the people who live in the UK that own/owned a Chihuahua, did you take your puppy to puppy classes?
I will be getting a Chihuahua next year, and of course! it will not be treated as a fashion accessory. It will be treated like any other dog, and I would like it to be trained properly and have manners like any other breed of dog – so I was thinking of taking it to a puppy class. (I understand training will need to be done at home too – I have owned dogs before, just not a Chihuahua).
The thing is, with them being SO small what do you think? Are they ok with training classes or should I just leave the training while at home?
I am aware I’ll probably get teased by the other people at puppy class because I’ll be taking a dog smaller than a cat (there are some ignorant people about), and I know not everybody loves Chihuahuas. Anyway, I’m not worried about that, each to their own.
So Chihuahua owners, what did you do? If you did take your puppy to puppy classes, how did you get on?

All dogs should go to obedience classes and have the training kept up at home.
Their size has nothing to do with bringing them to a class. I’ve been to classes tht had dogs ranging in size from a Mini schnauzer to a giant lab mix. If you get teased, just smile and ignore them. Perhaps your well behaved dog will change their mind about the breed! : )
