Question by Jaime – LUA IS HOME!: DS: About Craigslist?
WOW.
Someone posted something on YA! about Craigslist earlier, so I decided to do a bit of surfing on my local Craigslist.
I went to the discussion forums under “pets,” and was extremely surprised at what I found.
I clicked on a starter that said “Teacup chihuahua.” It was about how this person wanted a “girlfriend” for their “teacup” chihuahua so that they could have babies, etc, etc, etc.
I assumed the responses would be “AWWWwwwWW A TEACUP CHIWAWA HOW CUUTEE ๐ HEHE I WANT ONE”
I was so shocked (and extremely proud/pleased) to see that every single response was something to this nature:
“You have a poorly bred runt.”
“There is no such thing.”
“Why would you want to add to the over population problem?”
“Do you realize that Chihuahuas are the second most-likely breed to find at a shelter? (First comes the Pit Bulls…)”
And my personal favorite…
“Oh, hun, someone told you all wrong. THIS is a teacup: (Insert picture of an actual teacup here)”
(Then, might I add, everyone got into a conversation about their fine china.)
I actually started to like my city a little bit more. Goes to show how many animal lovers and people that actually have knowledge of dogs there really are. It kind of made my night, and I wanted to share the story with you all.
LEGIT:
1. Do you work/volunteer/donate at/to your local Humane Society/Shelter/Pound?
2. If so, do you ever see the dogs in there?
3. If so, what is the breed you see most often?
4. What is your favorite breed?
5. How is this breed portrayed by the media?
6. How does this affect the breed in general? (i.e. Chihuahuas are now seen as fashion accessories which led to back yard breeders eating it up)
Thanks, all!
@Brandy – That “reddish tint with the black points” you’re referring to is most likely called Sable coloring. (The reason I say most likely is because I’m not exactly sure which one you’re referring to.) :]
My answers:
1. I donate money and supplies.
2. Yes.
3. Labs, Beagles, Pits, and Heinz 57 mutts.
4. Chihuahuas.
5. “Purse dogs,” “Fashion accessories,” and toys. They’re also thought of as yappy and aggressive, which I HATE. The only ones like that are the ones that haven’t had the right socialization and training and that is their owners faults.
6. Back yard breeders produce way too many because they’re in high demand. Now there are too many unwanted Chihuahuas in shelters and running around as strays.
