Question by NotBornYesterday: Feline urinary tract infection won’t go away!?
Our 3 yr old female cat has had a bad urinary tract infection for a month now. The vet has tried 3 different medications, and she seems to improve for a few days, but then relapses and starts peeing blood again. We are at our wits end. Vet said she doesn’t have bladder stones and isn’t diabetic. We’ve changed to a special food and cat litter that is all-natural, but nothing is helping her. Any professional advice would be appreciated because we are going broke on a vet that can’t seem to figure it out. :o(
To answer some questions below:
The vet first gave her Biomox, and she healed after all was gone, but then had an immediate relapse. So we took her back and he gave her Clavomox (sp?) for another week. That had no effect, but rather seemed to make it worse. So finally he has given her two weeks worth of Orbax tabs, of which she has about 5 tablets left.
We have cut out dry food from the diet, tho the other cat we have is none too thrilled about that, but he’s been perfectly fine. We’ve changed their litter frequently to keep the box as free from bacteria as possible. We’ve also bought a filtered cat water fountain so as to entice them to drink more water.
The wet food we’ve been using was recommended – it’s the Friskies Special Diet which is specifically PH balanced for urinary tract health.
Also, another addition… the vet did xrays and found no evidence of any kind of foreign bodies or stones in the bladder, etc… that is why we have been at such a loss… blood test/urinalysis showed no poisons either…
