Question by niksmiss: Is cage sand really necessary for Lovebirds?
‘m in the process of preparing for my first Lovebirds (have kept budgies and finches before).
Their cage is on it’s way (size L x W x H: 75.5 x 45 x 90.5 cm) and I’m looking at appropriate toys and accessories to buy for them. I’ve used sandpaper for budgies and finches. I’ve seen cage sand in pet shops and online and wondered if it was necessary for my future birds.
I’m also thinking of a perch/stand for letting them out of the cage. Do you think it’s wise for such small parrots?
All help is appreciated as I want to make sure my new birds are healthy and happy.
@Misspensylvania, I have no other birds (I used to many years ago) so please do not worry. :@)

The answer is, Lovebirds do need grit. Many members of the parrot family do not, like cockatoos and cockatiels.
