Question by Labluf: is this usual behavior for a cat?
I’ve been a dog owner all my life, but I took in a cat from my librarian ((who was allergic)) three years back. He is not what I expected a cat to be. Meaning, he’s not solitary, he’s not mean, and he doesn’t stink… also, he’s almost exactly like some feline-like dog
-he follows me everywhere. More then Sunny, ((my Labrador I raised as a pup)). It’s like I have a shadow tagging along. I believe the only thing keeping him from leaving the house with me is the fact he apearantly hates any form of water. –snow!-
-he waits by doors… like a dog. Whenever I come home, he’s sitting right by the little window by the side of the door. As soon as I start walking up the stairs, you can hear him meow. And when I go potty, he’ll lay down right outside the bathroom door, like a creepy stalker 0-0
but the things I love him most for is his temperament. Like I said, he wasn’t mean like I expected. Rather, he’ll meow and growl if you annoy him extremely. –usually he just flicks his tail and walks off–, and I’ve never seen him bite, not even Sunny, who usually annoys the crap out of the cat. ((no, Sunny doesn’t bite, but he’ll sniff the cat’s but, try sleeping/sitting on him, crowds the cat, and occasionally barks at him to get the cat to ‘play’ as if Dirk -the cat- was another dog))Nor has he ever scratched anyone. ((he swats at my sister when she pets him a bit roughly, but never with his claws out))
-he’s the calmest cat I’ve ever heard of. like I said, it takes a lot to even get him to yowl, He’s never shown fear of anything, and he tolerates quite a lot.
The only ‘cat like’ thing I can say about him is that he purrs and ‘kneads’ when he’s sleeping, ((he also drools >_<)) and that he hates water. Everything else is dog like. Is this normal for cats, did I get very lucky, or did he pick up on the dog's behavior? ps: he's a normal tabby cat, about the size of a five-year old maincoon. ((he actually is the same height as my best friends pure maincoon. Dirks is just fatter with a big head and short fur)) He's roughly six years old now, which might explain the mellow behavior, but he's been this calm since he was younger Best answer:
