Question by pandora078: what is the normal range respiratory rate for a cat?
my cat had an anaphylactic reaction this morning. i am now monitoring him at home, but need to know when and if i need to give him a terbutaline injection. currently his respiratory rate is 56, but he doesn’t appear to be using accessory muscles for breathing. thanx in advance for useful information.

that is a normal respiratory rate for a cat- what you want to watch for if it goes above 100 or below 20- if he starts to look like he’s “panting” or open-mouth breathing get him to a vet IMMEDIATELY. Also if he starts to get panicy or doesn’t want to be touched something might be going on as well.
Cats are very good at hiding their distress, so keep a very close watch on him today, and the next 48 hours.
