Question by rachel_one23: Why is my indoor 4 yr old male cat experiencing loss of appetite and rapid weight loss? He’s FeLV/FIV negative
Here’s the breakdown -totally inside cat, in the past week he’s dropped at least 4-5 lbs -down to 8.9 lbs from around 12-13. Thought he had a broken tooth -took him to vet -no broken tooth but he did have tapeworms. He was given a shot for the worms -3 days later he still isn’t eating. Vet listened to his heart, felt his abdomen – nothing out of the ordinary. Had blood checked -slightly anemic (could have been stress from being at vet to begin with -he’s very skittish), globulins were high which is a sign of inflammation, like his body is fighting off something. Vet said something about the color of his blood and the pigment of the liver. Bought wet food and he drinks the juice but won’t eat the chunks. We force fed him 6 pieces and he kept them down, so we forced 10 more. Vet was stumped at cause of all this -if he can keep food down why won’t he eat? We have 1 other cat and 1 small dog – neither are sick at all. He purrs when petted, doesn’t seem in pain?? We’re stumped-please help!

When a cat has “fatty liver syndrome”, they stop eating. This happened to my roommate’s cat. She dropped TONS of weight and refused to eat. You should take him back to the vet and do more tests. It really could be anything. But you might want to look at that.
Was he fat before he lost the weight, or normal?
